The present continuous tense is am/is/are plus ING (the Gerund) as in: doing drinking, talking, eating, walking, running, writing, speaking, working, ringing, and listening.

The past tense of this is WAS and WERE. I WAS, he/she/it WAS – We/you/they WERE.
