A business word/phrase = Revenue streams are the various sources from which a business earns money from the sale of goods or the provision of services.

A Revenue Stream is the building block presenting the cash a company generates from each Customer Segment. Most businesses need at least one great revenue stream to earn money.

The verb to expand means to increase the size or amount of something. In business, we often talk about expanding a department or a business.

GRAMMAR: 0 = Null in English there are at least 7 different ways to say ‘Null’.

  1. Nil” e.g. football scores, Rugby scores and sometimes the temperature.

  2. Zero” = the temperature (B.E.) the temperature is below zero, “It’s 5 degrees below zero.” The Americans use Zero for numbers (mathematics % = 7.9%, 1.0) and telephone numbers.

  3. Nought / “nought” B.E. for zero = 0 mathematics.

 “A million is one followed by 6 noughts.” “I got 6.0% off my tax.” “I got 2.0 for my English exam.

  1. Nothing” = 0. “My favourite football team beat their opponents 4 to nothing = 4:0.”

  2. “Love” = 0 Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis and Squash scores. E.g. One set to love. 15 points to love. 4 games to love.

  3. Duck” = in Cricket scores. In Cricket, you get points or goals you score ‘Runs’. If you get out without scoring any runs, then you are out for a ‘Duck’.

  4. A Golden Duck” = in Cricket scores. This means that you are got out on the first time the bowler throws the ball at you.

 

Pronunciation tip: Aussprachetipp:

Scheme – Schema and Schedule – Zeitplan are NOT pronounced in the same way. Scheme as in SKODA cars and Schedule is more like Schuhe.
