“Dead men tell no tales” means to say that someone who has been killed cannot reveal secret information.

“Dead Men Tell No Tales” was used as the title of an 1898 novel by E. W. Hornung, a 1914 short film directed by F. Martin Thornton, a 1920 film based on the Hornung novel and directed by Tom Terriss, and a 1938 British thriller film directed by David MacDonald. It’s been long said that dead men tell no tales, and if you’ve committed a crime to which there were witnesses, it’s believed that permanently silencing those witnesses prevents them from sharing what they know with the authorities.  The good news is that technology and forensics have advanced to the point where this adage is no longer true.  Advancements in science have made it so that dead men still tell tales.
